When Past Forward artists Zeinab Al Hashemi and Khalid Mezaina, and co-curator Noor al Suwaidi, were in Washington, DC to celebrate the launch of the groundbreaking exhibition, they also had the opportunity to connect with the DC community by meeting with school groups and other organizations.

One of the highlights was visiting young patients at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC), where the artists described their work and hosted an interactive workshop.

“The visit to Children’s was a special experience for the Emirati artists and myself. We were excited to see the level of creativity and enthusiasm shown by the children. The workshop was a great way to share the joy of art with the patients and witness the happiness it brought them first-hand,” said Dana Al Marashi, Head of the Heritage and Social Affairs Department at the UAE Embassy.

Pam King Sams, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Children’s National said, “the artists did a great job interacting with the children – who were all very excited about the workshop. Studies show that allowing children to experience art therapy helps them heal more quickly. The Emirati artists’ visit was a truly special moment that brightened the day for so many.”
